Introduction:
Depreciation run programmes are recurring operations that update all active assets in the system with projected depreciation. The majority of businesses run this programme on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. This blog will assist you in comprehending the processes necessary to complete the S4 Hana Finance depreciation run programme.

Overview:

An overview of the depreciation run capability in S4 HANA Finance may be found in this document. You are familiar with the depreciation run programme in ECC 6.0.

Classic Asset accounting (SAP ECC) is no longer an option; New Asset accounting is the exclusive solution in S4 HANA. This document will discuss the operation of the S4 HANA depreciation run software.

The new FAA DEPRECIATION POST programme has replaced the outdated RAPOSTxxxx programme. T.code AFAB for the depreciation run has not changed.

Selection criteria, e.g., are the reason for posting the run. The input settings for the planning posting run, Repeat, Restart, and unplanned posting run options have been eliminated.

Display Layout: AFAB (Depreciation Posting Run)
The Reasons for posting run (scheduled depreciation run, repeat, restart, and unplanned posting run) are no longer relevant, simplifying the Selection view.

Info for Posting Parameters: This option will show the last posting period and year with ledger groups

Company code Selection: This is new option in S4 HANA to run the depreciation for single or multiple company codes at once.

Accounting Principle: You can see new option “Accounting Principle” in the input parameters has been added. You can post depreciation by selecting any accounting principle or leave it blank to post to all ledger groups

Totals log:

Summary report will be produced in log if you select this indicator, no other information on individual asset.

Detailed log:

If this indicator is set all posted assets will be listed with the respective depreciation area but still with the restriction for 1000 assets. Detailed log option provides information on individual assets level along with cost centers.

No Output log:

System does not create any output list if you select this indicator.

A test run can be performed but still with the restriction for 1000 assets.

How S4 HANA calculates depreciation values:
With each asset master record change and each posting of an asset, the system calculates the depreciation values. The table FAAT PLAN VALUES will contain these plan values.

The planned asset values are adopted by the depreciation run, which posts them in financial accounting and stores them in the ACDOCA table.

Asset Explorer (AW01N)

The table FAAT PLAN VALUES stores the line status as “Planned” for the periods 08 through 12. The depreciation run programme has already been completed and posted, with the status of the line items reading “Posted”.

The journal entry is posted and updated in ACDOCA table on the asset level.

Architectural Modifications: Table ACDOCA is now where the actual data for ANEP, ANEA, ANLP, and ANLC (line items) is stored. Data from ANEK (the header) is kept in BKPF.
The table FAAT DOC IT now stores statistical line items from asset accounting, such as calculations for tax purposes.
Depreciation year-dependent attributes are now kept in FAAT YDDA.

Conclusion: The S4 HANA Finance module taught you how to implement depreciation.

To better comprehend new asset accounting, I’ve highlighted the significant differences between S4 HANA finance and SAP ECC, as well as the step-by-step procedure for recording AFAB depreciation in HANA using an example. I hope this will aid in learning about the Asset area.
