In this blog article, I’ll demonstrate how to more flexibly change the key date for ageing analysis (for accounts payable). I’ll give an illustration to show how the procedure works.

Commercial Context

An software called Aging Analysis can be used to show due amounts broken down by factors like supplier, company code, and ageing. By changing the key date, you can observe ageing analyses for several time periods. The main date options, however, are currently predefined with little room for customization.

A list of commonly used important dates

What happens if you wish to view the ageing analysis based on a crucial date that is not included in the list of predetermined dates?

This post offers a potential workaround: you can build a custom analytical query utilising CDS view and enable the date picker for the Key Date field, publish it as an app, and utilise this app to perform ageing analysis.

Procedure

Make a unique analytical query.

Pick Create to start a new query in the app Custom Analytical Queries, or choose Copy to duplicate an existing query. Choose OK after entering the query name and your data source.

Invent a query

Give the query a label on the General tab, then select Next.

Give it a label

When you tick the boxes next to the available fields in Field Selection, the selected fields will start to appear in the Free area on the right side.

Update the fields’ display

Make the following adjustments for the row you’ve chosen by going to the Display tab.

  1. Decide whether or not to display it.
  2. select the axis on which it should appear.
  3. define whether or not sorting is enabled.
  4. To change the fields’ order, select Up and Down.

Modify Filter

Select a row for a particular field by going to the Filter tab and entering filter values there.

I establish user input values for the field and set the relative date TODAY as the start value in order to enable a date picker for the Key Date field. For the user-input value, the default lookup entity is defined.

Update Key Date filter

I can view a preview of the query after saving it. This is how it seems. I can see that the Key Date column has a date picker enabled that starts on Today (the day I write this query).

A sample of the question

Create an app version of the query.

Locate the query (YY1 DEMO) I just made in the View Browser app.

Get the question

Visit the details page and submit a request there.

develop an application

Now that the query has an application ID. For future usage, copy the ID.

Utilization ID

Integrate the app with the business catalogue

Look for the application using the ID in the Custom Catalog Extensions app. The application should be published after being added to the business catalogue where you want it to appear.

Publish an app after adding it to the business catalogue.

When you use the matching user to log on to the Fiori Launchpad, it will appear as an app.

Launchpad app

To perform more flexible ageing analysis, you may now utilise this custom app where a date picker is available for the Key Date field.

Conclusion

If you wish to use a flexible date picker as your key date when you are making ageing analysis, I hope the instructions in this post will help you learn how to develop a bespoke ageing analysis app utilising an analytical query.
